Ever run into someone with a belief in something so strong that, when engaged in conversation, took every opportunity to expound on that belief and conviction? View points, back ground information, point and counter point, examples all the way.
Before you react, let me say this: there's nothing wrong in how that person has conducted themselves. They simply may be relating their belief in the only way they know how. Up front and to the point. They have such a strong belief that they want other people to understand the same thing, with the same conviction. Is this the right way for everyone? More than likely not, but it's never a sure thing.
On the other side of the scale, so to speak, are the people who have a quiet and softly spoken conviction. They wait for someone to ask an opinion, then expand on a given view point. Conversation flows easily back and forth, with ideals and thoughts going in both directions. Most of the time, someone walks away with something to think about, to reflect on. Is this the right way then? Again, more than likely not.
So where does that leave us?
Square in the middle of both of them.
We might hear something from the person who takes every opportunity to talk about things, and then a few days later we run into the softly spoken person, and converse about some of those things. Days, weeks or months later we find ourselves coming to a firm conclusion about the entire set of events or conversations, we incorporate it into our lives, and we continue to move forward.
Hard Core to Softly Spoken. Without either of them, we might not have a balancing point, or reference point, to help guide us in our own thoughts, convictions or beliefs. So to each of these types or people, let's say thank you. By being the person they are, they have helped us learn and grow.
