Learn, Teach, and Improve Your Spirituals Gifts by Dana Willingham
God so loved the world that He gave the world His best. He gave His son Jesus. All born again Christians know that Jesus died and rose again so that we may have everlasting life. But is that all there is to being a follower of Christ?
It is written in Ephesians 4:8 wherefore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. Everybody in the church has a part in the edification of the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says, "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." Everyone that is of Christ and is part of the body of Christ has an obligation to serve one anther with their spiritual gifts.
But what are these gifts? There are many gifts and many ways to serve the body of Christ. These gifts are of the manifestation of the Spirit of Christ. There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. (1 Cor. 12:4-5) Although opinions differ on the actual number of spiritual gifts, God's Word clearly indicates a variety of gifts.
Here is a list of just a few gifts and ways to serve the body of Christ:GivingLeadershipEvangelistMercyProphec of TonguesPastorWisdomMissionary
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a)
Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10) This is something that is relevant and necessary for the body of Christ. Many of us, me included at one time, go to church every Sunday. We hear the word of God, say our amen's, and then go home and eat. That is where our life as a Christian begins and ends. But we have been called as the light of the world. Romans 12:2 says And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transform by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God. When we accepted the Lord into our lives, the old natural man died. We were "born again" into supernatural beings. As followers of Christ we are in this world and not of this world. Mark 16:15 says -And He said unto them, Go Ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17) And these signs shall follow those that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. 18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not harm them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Believers are empowered through Christ our Lord. We go through day by day not even using those gifts. We are supernatural beings with supernatural gifts and we don't even use them for the edification of the body of Christ or to witness to sinners. The world is in search for the supernatural. Psychics are getting paid big money because they are using supernatural gifts (not of God, but part of the supernatural). Here we are Christians gifted with supernatural gifts we do not even use.
This may be brand new news to some believers. Like me at one time, many believers just go about their day like nothing has changed in their life when they accepted the Lord into their heart. Maybe the gifts were not explained. But we must read the word of the Lord and it will explain who we are in Christ. Sons and Daughters of the Lord have a job to do. That job is enhanced with the gifts that were given to you when you accepted Him in your life. Believe it or not everyone gets them when they choose to follow Him. How we use them is up to us.
