Getting to Know Ghosts from Coast to Coast by Rhetta Akamatsu

Ghosts are hot these days. Everywhere you look there are shows about ghosts: Medium, Ghost Whsiperer, and reality shows like Ghost Hunters, Haunting Evidence, and Most Haunted. Books about the paranormal regularly make the best seller list.

Why are we so fascinated with ghosts? The existance of ghosts gives us hope that maybe death is not the end. We can hope that we will be united with loved ones after we ouselves pass on if we can see that ghosts linger here. And we are curious and drawn by the unknown and the unexplainable, the mystery and the thrilling chill of the unknowable and unpredictable.

Every culture in every time has had stories of ghosts and spirits. Nearly every person can think of at least one unexplainable incident in their life, something they saw or felt that just didn't seem natural, and therefore, was supernatural. Anyone who doesn't have a story of their own has a friend who does. Over half of Americans believe in ghosts according to numerous polls. So you're at least curious, and willing to be even slightly open-minded. Where, outside of the movies and books, do you find ghosts?

Well, one way is to go on a ghost tour. Almost every major city has at least one ghost tour, and many, like New York, Charleston, New Orleans, Savannah, and others across the country, have more than one. Ghost tours are a great way to get acquainted with ghost lore and maybe have a little experience of your own from the safety of a group. Even if you don't encounter anything extraordinary, you will learn some history, see some fascinating sights, and have a lot of fun.Another way to learn about ghosts is to visit paranormal websites on the web.

You can see pictures, read stories, listen to EVPs( electronic voice phenomena, when voice are recorded when no one is present or that could not belong to anyone present.) Then you can judge for yourrself. There are many paranormal investigation groups on the Internet, and many offer the opportunity to join in investigations yourself. Be sure the group you investigate with takes a safe approach, has permission to explore, and provides at least some instruction before you set out.Do some research. Keep your mind open. Go on some tours. You may find you agree with Shakespeare's Hamlet, that there "are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamed of in our philosophy."

If you're ready to get started, go to Ghost to Coast.us to find ghost tours and paranormal research groups across the United States.
