Want 10 Years of Longevity? by H. Wechsler
Longevity And How To Extend Your Life
Are you a contrarian, a skeptic until the proof convinces you otherwise?Welcome friend, you have a scientific mind. Evidence is not all equal, and some researchers test 12 people and draw conclusions about the 6.5billion on our planet.
Remember the name Dr. Elizabeth H. Blackburn, a cell biologist. She isexpected to win a Nobel prize for her work on aging. Professor Blackburnis the big cheese in psychology at the University of California, San Francisco and has been studying Aging since 1978.
So What
If you remember two scientific terms (telomeres and telomerase), you jump to the head of the class on the latest research on aging and longevity.Eliminating cancer may well be based on the discoveries involving telomeresby the intervention of telomerase. Wait, stress appears to be the leading cause, the Grand Slam, in advancing your aging process. Learn how to inhibit it.
Telomeres
Picture shoelaces. Notice the tips at the ends of the laces. What is their purpose? It prevents the shoelaces from unraveling at the ends, right?
Your telomeres are the caps at the tail-end of your chromosomes in your cells. You can guess telomeres prevent fraying of your chromosomes. Now guess whereyour 30,000 genes are located? Right, your chromosomes (23 pair) containing your genetic code, the blueprint for life.
Profound Fact: the sooner your chromosome tips unravel, the closer you are tocashing in your life insurance.
Telomerase
Dr. Blackburn discovered the enzyme, telomerase, which restores the tips of thechromosomes when they wear down to the nub. Yes, it applies to you and me, andthe rest of Homo sapiens.
An enzyme is a protein in living cells accelerating chemical changes. Telomerasefixes the aging of the tips of your chromosomes. Telomerase avoids rapid aging oftenaccompanied by a visit to the cemetery. The older (mature) we become, the greaterthe amount of fraying at the tips of your chromosomes.
Stress
According to Dr. Blackburn, it is psychological stress that causes the aging of yourcells. Scientists make the connection between ongoing chronic stress (distress) andthe unraveling of your telomeres. The greater your stress, the less of our enzyme friend telomerase gets pumped out, and the shorter your chromosome tips.
What we see is a nongenetic cause of aging. It is nurture (stress), not nature at work.An external force is stopping your fingers from fixing the broken faucet.
Diseases
Your top three causes of termination are Heart Disease, Cancer and Stroke. In medical examinations, initial indicators (early warning system) of all three heavy hitters include the length of telomeres and the production of telomerase. It is also noted during autopsies by coroners.
It is not yet proven but a line of scientific thinking is that cell divisions in abnormalprograms may be directly related to the shorty chromosomes tips. Thus, cancer.
StressBusting
Over thirty years of U.S. research on daily meditation (Google: Dr. Herbert Benson,Harvard Medical) indicates immune system improvement, lower blood pressure andbetter heart function as a direct benefit of meditating. Do meditators (15-25 minutes daily) have more telomerase pumping? More research is required.
DNA
What I love about science is new research produces new ruling principles. In the past it was law that only DNA could produce DNA. Today we know thatthe enzyme telomerase can manufacture DNA.
What we see is a combining of nature, our chromosomes and genes dictating ourlife functions, and nurture, stress affecting the functions and structures of ourmind and body.
Our mind combines Thoughts-Emotion-Behavior for decision-making. Left andright hemispheres (neocortex) unite for optimal results. It is nature plus nurturenot either/or.
Meditation
You can discover how to be a meditator and improve your mind and body in lessthan four 15 sessions. The secret is implementing it, not analyzing it to mental exhaustion.
All it takes to begin StressBusting (meditation) is taking control of your attention. If your decide to focus your attention on breaking up your daily stress, there are baby-steps to create significant changes.
Dr. Edward Lorenz, MIT, who coined the term, the Butterfly Effect said, Smallchanges lead to massive reactions. Are you willing to make a few small changesin your daily rituals to add up to 10 years of healthy longevity?
EEG (Electroencephalogram)
Have you noticed many intelligent folks try to solve the great questions of lifebefore they can produce success in running their own mind and body?
Forget finding the Meaning of Life or even your Purpose in the cosmos, how about accepting the assignment to reduce your stress up to 66%?
It requires 15 minutes daily to devote to moving your EEG from Beta (13-40) cycles, to Alpha (8-12) cycles per second. Forget the numbers, all you do is close your eyesfor two-minutes and deeply relax.
The electricity running your brain lowers itself from Beta (active consciousness) to Alpha (alert relaxation). The secret is moving your attention from eyes open activity, to closed eyes concentrating on your Mantra.
Mantra
This Hindu term is a special word or sound you repeat with your eyes closed and body relaxed to cancel your organic stream of consciousness (self-talk). Your job is to pay attention to your inhaling and exhaling, something you do not do in Beta.
Mantra is pronounced as you read it. On inhaling mentally hear the wordBUT, and on exhaling, the word MOM. After a little practice your mind goeson auto-pilot and you meditate in alignment with your breathing. Inhale, BUT,exhale, MOM, and you relax deeper and deeper while inhibiting your normalsubvocalization (self-talk). Stress begins to slip away.
Endwords
We do things for benefits. WIIFM? means, What is In It For Me?Motivation is required for doing any particular ritual, meditation included. How about focusing on reducing stress and aging and increase your longevity?
If you spend 15 minutes daily deeply relaxing through meditation, you activate your StressBusting skills of ignoring people and situations causing anger, distress, and angst. Your distress level is reduced and your self-esteemrises. Do your own experiment.
We also suggest you relax by improving your cognitive skills. 3x your learningskills, and 2x your long-term memory to enjoy your additional years andavoiding Alzheimer disease. It is a function of Use It or Lose It. Ask us how.
See ya,
